Black Paris Tours® takes you to the hang outs, haunts and places made famous by African American musicians, soldiers, writers, artists, historians, celebrities, and political exiles. From the 1800s to World War One, and from the days of the Harlem Renaissance, to the 1970s, they came to Paris fleeing racism in America. Along the way, they joined the list of the world’s most famous Black expatriates and visitors.

Sample Itinerary

9:30 am - BPT guides meet guests at their hotel for 30 minute Black Paris Tours Orientation providing history and cultural “cues” needed to master Paris. 10:30 am - Bus pick-up to begin formal tour. Attractions include: Concorde and the Obelisk....at 3,400 years old, this is the oldest monument in Paris. Used as an astronomical measuring device at the Temple of Thebes in Luxor, it was brought to Paris in 1831. The Hieroglyphics tell the story of the African Pharaoh Ramses.   Church of the Madeleine. Josephine Baker’s April 15, 1975 funeral was a spectacular finale to her 50 year career in Paris. The French government gave her a state funeral -- the first American woman to ever be given such an honor.   Olympia Concert Hall. This hall has played host to an amazing line up of legendary African American musical greats -- Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Josephine Baker, the Nicholas Brothers, Hazel Scott, Lionel Hampton, Clara Ward, Nat King Cole, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masakela, Quincy Jones, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Ike and Tina Turner, the Jackson Five, the Supemes, Jackie Wilson, Jimmy Hendrix, James Brown, Nat King Cole, Nathalie Cole -- just to name a few!   Opera Garnier - America’s greatest Black operatic talents have graced this stage including: Ira Aldridge, Blind Tom, Sissieretta Jones, Lillian Evanti, Paul Robeson, Grace Bumbry, William Warfield, Leontyne Price, Marian Anderson, Mahalia Jackson, Jessye Norman, Janet Baker, Barbara Hendricks….just to name a few!   Trip to “Little Africa” to see the colorful outdoor market at Chateau Rouge. You’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to a market in some of the biggest cities of West Africa. Stop for photos!   Drive through historic Montmartre called “The Harlem of Paris” between WWI and WWII.   Visit Monuments to the Three Alexandre Dumas....the General, the author, the playwright.   Lunch Visit Church of the Black Madonna, oldest Black Virgin in Paris.   Josephine Baker in the 14th Arrt (Metro: Edgar Quinet) for group photo. Rue Gaitie is where Mme Baker last performed April 10, 1975 at Bobino Cabaret in a show titled “Josephine”. Her body laid in state at Bobino before her funeral cortege made its way to Church of the Madeleine the day of her funeral. April 15, 1975. Trocadéro to see best view of Eiffel Tower and take pictures. Stop at Theatre des Champs Elysées to see where Josephine Baker first performed in 1925. Return to Hotel by 5:00pm
